The contract duration is 5 months and the number of working days is 50 days. The selected consultant is expected to be physically present in Japan, with regular presence in the Tokyo office especially in June and August, and able to attend in-person meetings as and when required. Details regarding the working arrangement and duration can be discussed with the hiring manager.
業務内容

Background/ Purpose of Assignment

 

UNICEF Tokyo, as part of the Public Partnerships Division (PPD), works to strengthen UNICEF’s position as a trusted partner of the Government of Japan and other public sector partners in Japan, aiming to expand strategic collaborations and opportunities for resource mobilization. The office engages in evidence-based advocacy to support the implementation of UNICEF's Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in Agenda 2030. To ensure that UNICEF remains the best partner of choice for the Government and people of Japan, UNICEF Tokyo actively develops, mobilizes, and manages public partnerships with various stakeholders in Japan, including MoFA, JICA, members of the Japanese Diet as well as the broader general public. This is done in close collaboration with UNICEF headquarters, regional offices, country offices, the Japan Committee for UNICEF, and UNICEF's goodwill ambassadors.
 

One of the upcoming international events that the Government of Japan will host is the 9th Tokyo International
Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) on 20th-22nd August 2025 in Yokohama, co-organised by UNDP, African
Union Commission and World Bank. In this regard, UNICEF has committed to ensuring and advocating for member states
to highlight and promote the rights of children and young people, and obtain their commitment to investing in the future
generation at TICAD 9, in coordination with other stakeholders both in Japan and abroad. Particularly in the arena of
health, UNICEF Tokyo is planning to organize a side event on global health financing and supporting Triple I initiative, in
particular.
 

Under the overall supervision of the Public Partnership Specialist (Communication and Advocacy) at UNICEF Public Partnerships Division in Tokyo, and in close coordination with the Public Partnership Consultant who is leading the organization of the TICAD side event, the Public Partnership Consultant (Communication) will provide technical, logistical, coordination and communication support for the TICAD 9 and the Japan UNICEF Annual Consultation.
 

Scope of Work:

 

• Successful Coordination and Communication support for the high-level visits at the Annual Consultation:
 

Working closely with UNICEF Tokyo’s Communication team and selected NYHQ/RO/CO colleagues as well as external partners, leading the organization of events (such as university engagement and career seminar) and meetings for UNICEF's senior management and the engagement with both digital and traditional media and partners. This includes, but not limited to, the preparation of briefing notes and other relevant supporting documents for events and meetings, implementing events, accompanying meetings, facilitating active media outreach, drafting social media posts and press releases, arranging media interviews and drafting summary reports.
 

•Successful Coordination and Communication support for TICAD 9:
 

Working closely with the Public Partnership Consultant who is leading the TICAD related tasks for UNICEF, lead the communication activities for TICAD 9. This includes liaising with relevant colleagues on Communication-related matters, supporting the organization and the implementation of side-events, coordinating and supporting the publication of an Op-Ed (externally) and an ICON story (internally), drafting social media posts, arranging media interviews and preparing for talking points for the senior management, attending meetings, and drafting summary reports.

英語
Fluency in English and Japanese (verbal and written) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
学位
修士以上
技術資格
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations or another relevant technical field is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public affairs, resource mobilization, communications, external relations, partnership, or other relevant area.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of international development and humanitarian assistance experience in the UN system.

  • Familiarity with donor visibility & recognition is required.
  • Experience in event management is required.
  • Knowledge of development issues, strategies, as well as political and governmental processes is an asset.
  • Positive performance record on drive for results and teamwork.
  • Proven capacity to quickly absorb new information and techniques and work under tight deadlines.
