Under the overall guidance of the Senior Protection Officer, the Protection Associate will be expected to:

1.　Contribute to the advocacy work towards relevant existing and emerging national stakeholders’ enhanced engagement in domestic protection of, third country solutions and multi-sectoral integration assistance (with a particular focus on education and employment) for refugees, in line with the international protection principles and the Global Compact on Refugees;

2.　Support the implementation of and expansion of tertiary education support for refugees in line with the UNHCR Strategy for Refugee Inclusion - Refugee Education 2030 and develop a strategic plan in close coordination with academic and technical training institutions and other relevant stakeholders including Japan for UNHCR and the Government;

3.   Liaise with relevant stakeholders including the Government, civil society and the private/corporate sector, and provide timely technical support to the implementation of and expansion of complementary pathways programmes in Japan, particularly education and labour mobility, and contribute to the implementation of UNHCR’s Roadmap 2030 on Third Country Solutions for Refugees through enhanced strategic engagement  with the relevant stakeholders;

4.   Facilitate the enhancement of networking among refugee youth of various backgrounds in order to ensure their meaningful participation in the Japanese society and support the development and implementation of their work plan in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders;    

5.   Contribute to the development of effective Comms/PI materials in close collaboration with Communications Unit in order to change the narrative about refugees in Japan;

6.   Provide general administrative and logistical support for Protection Unit, including communicating and coordinating with other units of BOT and various stakeholders, assisting the supervision of Protection Unit interns, and assisting or participating in internal and external events and lectures; and

7.   Perform other duties as required.

Minimum two years previous job experience relevant to the function or related fields.

Desirable: Experience in working within a multicultural environment is preferable.
