Under the supervision of the Director, WHO Kobe Centre (WKC), and in collaboration with other WKC team members, WHO staff, and the WHO global and HQ communication network, the incumbent acts as the communications specialist and works to independently set, plan and implement an array of communication activities for the Centre, with emphasis on the local environment in Hyogo Prefecture and in Japan.

The incumbent will work with a wide range of partners including WHO staff, counterparts from national and local governments, health professionals, academic institutions, as well as other UN agencies, NGOs and representatives of the private sector to increase local and national visibility of WHO/WKC, awareness of the presence of the WHO/WKC in Hyogo and in Japan, and promote and disseminate the work of the Centre. The incumbent will be expected to communicate regularly with local and national government officials and partners, and national and local media.

Desirable:
Previous experience with WHO and familiarity with the United Nations system. Experience/training in public health or public health risk communication an advantage
